Mexico National Team ensured direct passage to the World Cup after beating El Salvador last week by a 2-0 score, after dealing with a lack of goals for the past six matches, as they only scored two goals on the game against Jamaica.

Héctor Herrera, injured, misses Manchester City's knockout games

Now, Gerardo “Tata” Martino will have eight months to find a way to solve the functioning problems El Tri has showed from the midfield up, especially the lack of a striker that can score, as neither Rogelio Funes Mori, Henry Martín nor Raúl Jiménez are going through a good streak.

The Monterrey forward has been dealing with bad performances for the past year, and he wasn't missed in the last FIFA match window, which he missed due to a lingering injury. At the same time, Martin wasn't helpful in the few minutes that Martino gave him during the three games, proving that he shouldn't be called for the World Cup.

Raúl Jiménez, although keeps playing at a high level, he hasn't been able to score if it's not from the penalty mark, which opens the question about why Martino hasn't called Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, who is the best active striker that Mexico currently has.

Will "Chicharito" receive a call-up for Qatar 2022?

It looks almost impossible that Javier Hernández will be part of El Tri's roster, not only because Martino has vetoed him since his last call-up in 2019, but because he's considering giving that place to another Mexican Argentine.

According to sports journalist André Marín, Martino is working alongside Julio Furch to get him ready to wear El Tri's colors in the next few months, following what he did with Funes Mori, who wasn't a good bet from his side given the poor performances he's given with the Aztec squad.

Furch has been one of the most constant strikers in Liga MX since he arrived at Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz back in 2015, as he's been in the top 10 scorers I every single season he's played in Mexican soccer, with the only exception of the season he was injured, even if he's changed clubs three times.

Can he play for El Tri?

The Atlas forward has talked in the past about his desire of playing for the Mexican national team, as he's felt connected to Mexico since his arrival. He can play for the Aztec squad given that he never had a process with the Argentine national team, opening the door for his eventual call-up if Martino decided to.
