Guillermo Ochoa still has the opportunity of returning to European soccer

According to reports from sports journalist David Medrano, Gerardo “Tata” Martino has already decided around 20 out of the 26 players that will be part of the roster that will play in Qatar, and the remainder six will come out of the friendly games that El Tri plays over the summer.

Martino has said in previous press conferences that he intends to play the friendly games and the two matches from the CONCACAF Nations League with a roster of mostly younger players, as he wants to fill the remainder six spots with players that will become the foundation of the team for the 2026 World Cup.

Although the Argentine coach hasn’t revealed the list of players that will be part of the five games that El Tri will have in the next month, as Liga MX teams end their participation in Clausura 2022, the chosen players have started arriving to the training grounds.

Martino has decided the four goalkeepers that he’ll take to the World Cup

Given that FIFA allowed to expand the roster from 23 spots to 26, one of the extra spots will be taken by a goalkeeper, increasing the number from three to four, something that will leave one of the goalkeepers that Martino usually calls out of the roster.

Guillermo Ochoa has ensured his ticket, as he has been the starting goalkeeper throughout the entire stint of the Argentine coach in the Mexican national team. The second goalkeeper has often been Rodolfo Cota, who also has his placed in Qatar secured.

The two remainder spots will be taken by two of the three remainder goalkeepers: Jonathan Orozco, Alfredo Talavera, and Carlos Acevedo, with the Santos Laguna goalie at the bottom of the list, as according to reports from Jonatan Rodríguez, Orozco and Talavera will be the other two goalkeepers on the roster if they manage to earn playing time regularly.

Talavera will leave Pumas

The reason behind the departure of Talavera from Pumas is the irregular time he had in Clausura 2022, which is why if he manages to become an essential player in FC Juárez, his place in Qatar will be ensured. The only way in which Acevedo will take that last spot is if Talavera doesn’t have playing time in Apertura 2022.
