Now that they know the tough road they will have in the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Mexico National Team and Gerardo “Tata” Martino have seven months to solve the problems the team showed during the CONCACAF Qualifiers.

The player that will leave Mexico National Team now that Gerardo Martino was ratified as the coach

The Argentine coach is aware that the results they had on the road to Qatar 2022 were favorable, as they only lost two games of the 14 that they played in the final stage of the Qualifiers, but it was at the expense of their performances.

Martino was criticized for the lack of ideas that the Mexican national team presented each time they were on the pitch, as even if they had possession most of the game, they couldn’t reach their rivals box and didn’t have good aim.

The four strikers that Martino called were able to score just six goals during the Qualifiers -thee from Raúl Jiménez, one from Rogelio Funes Mori and two from Henry Martín-, which is why he’s considering adding a new striker to his roster prior to Qatar.

Another naturalized player will join El Tri

Martino is known for opening the doors to naturalized players, something he’s done in Paraguay and Argentina, and now is doing in El Tri, as he decided to call Funes Mori as soon as he got his Mexican citizenship last year.

Since then, Funes Mori has played 15 games wearing El Tri colors, where he’s scored five goals, although the last time he scored was in October. The drought the Mexican squad currently have, has made the Argentine coach to open the doors for Julio Furch.

Furch is on the last stages of the process to become a Mexican citizenship, and given that he’s lived in Mexico since 2015, when he arrived for Tiburones de Veracruz, he’s eligible to play for the Mexican squad if Martino decides to call him.

Can Furch play for El Tri?

The Atlas striker was never part of the Argentina National Team, which gives him the chance of asking FIFA for his change of nationality. His addition to El Tri would represent an instant improvement, as he’s been in the top 10 of scorers of Liga MX since he arrived. So far, Furch has scored 113 goals over the seven seasons he’s played in Mexico.
