Rogelio Funes was one of those called to be part of Gerardo Martino's final call-up for Qatar 2022. Despite not being a great attacking player, he has the total confidence of the Argentinean coach. However, he recently experienced a tense moment in a Mexican airport and made a bad reference to the country that hosts him.

The Rayados player had a problem with the authorities and referred disparagingly to Mexico. Now, as time goes by, it seems that destiny will take its toll and his place in the next World Cup may be hanging by a thread. The fact is that his competitors for the position are at a high level and, in addition, he has not recovered from his injury.

At first, it was thought that both Raúl Jiménez and Funes Mori were the two fixed attackers and only one extra was wanted. However, now it will be difficult to ensure the call-up of the naturalized Argentinean, due to the high level shown by Santiago Giménez at Feyenoord.

Why was Funes Mori naturalized?

Evidently, the attacker had participated in youth processes with the national team of his country, Argentina. However, after spending years in Mexican soccer, he was able to opt for residency and represent El Tri. It was obviously very difficult for him to represent the Albiceleste one day, unlike in Mexico, where there is an obvious shortage of center-forwards.
