One of the biggest problems that Mexico National Team will have to resolve before arriving in Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup is the lack of goals they’ve been dealing with since the Gold Cup was over, as they haven’t scored more than three goals since then.

The Aztec squad has scored just four goals in 2022 and only one of those goals was from their attackers, as Raúl Jiménez scored the lone goal against Panama via a penalty kick in the last minutes of the match that gave El Tri the victory.

But since Gerardo “Tata” Martino settled the current Mexican trident, they haven’t been able to score in the 359 minutes they’ve been together on the pitch, a number that worries not only the Argentine coach, but everyone in FMF.

Hirving “Chucky” Lozano hasn’t scored since October and Jesús Manuel “Tecatito” Corona since September, on the first game of the CONCACAF Qualifiers against Panama. It was assumed that his lack of goals had to do with his lack of confidence, as he wasn’t having a good streak with Porto.

FMF is behind his bad streak with El Tri

Once he arrived in Sevilla, “Tecatito” Corona regained his confidence and has been a factor for the Spanish team, but that hasn’t showed with El Tri, as he still hasn’t been able to score, although now FMF accidentally revealed the reason of his underperformances.

It’s no lie to say that “Tecatito” is one of the most renown Mexican players, something that the Mexican Football Federation is trying to exploit for their benefit, as he’s one of the players that usually appears in the adds of El Tri sponsors.

Instead of having enough time to train, to build chemistry with his teammates and learn the game plan, every time that he’s called to play for El Tri, Corona has to waste most of his time in photoshoots and recording the adds, which translates into his poor performances on the pitch.

Who could replace him to improve El Tri’s performances?

Alongside “Chucky” Lozano and “Tecatito” Corona, Gerardo Martino also called Uriel Antuna and Alexis Vega, who also play as wingers. Antuna could be his replacement as he is more comfortable playing as a right winger, but Martino has decided to give Vega the opportunity.
