Not so long ago, people used to tell every new player could match up to the level of the Argentinian legend, Lionel Messi. But one stands out from the rest: the Mexican winger Giovani Dos Santos. He debuted for Barcelona in 2006 and since then the comparison with Messi started.

Nevertheless, Dos Santos never fitted with the team then led by the dutch coach, Frank Rijkaard. In the end, the competition was too hard, Ronaldinho, Henry, and, Samuel Eto'o were Barcelona's attacking side. Even Messi had to win his spot among those stars, but "Gio" failed to do that for himself.

After just one season (2007-2008), he left Barcelona and never came back. He ended up his Barcelona's run with four goals and seven assists and playing 34 games. He then arrived at Tottenham as a promising signing. He even shared his presentation with an unknown Croatian who would become a Balon d'Or winner, Luka Modric. But the Mexican could manage to set himself in the toughest league on the planet.

After that, he basically became a world traveler. He played in England's championship, in Turkey and even in the United States! His last team was the biggest club in Mexico, America. Everyone thought he may have better luck at home, but something terrible happened.

A horrific injury against Chivas

"Gio" seemed to deliver when he started his path in America, but in a game against their rivals Chivas, Dos Santos suffered a terrible wound after a terrible tackle from Guadalajara's defender Antonio Briseño. After that, the winger simply wasn't the same and he couldn't hold up to America's standards. After finishing his contract, Dos Santos left the club. He had an offer from a Saudi Arabian team, but he didn't accept it, and right now, the then-called "Mexican Messi" is without a club to play with.
