January is coming to an end and the Mexican national team still does not have a coach for the 2026 World Cup process. While the United States and Canada are already holding camps, El Tri is still fine-tuning details and is now making a strong push to try to convince a coach like Marcelo Bielsa to accept the challenge. According to KeryNews, Bielsa's profile has once again gained momentum in the Mexican soccer federation.

After the resounding failure of Qatar 2022 and other processes in Mexican soccer, the Mexican federation announced certain reforms in local competitions, national teams and transfer regulations. In that sense, El Tri is looking for a top-level coach such as Marcelo Bielsa to accept the challenge of coaching the Mexican national team for 2026.

According to Gibrán Araige, from TUDN, Grupo Pachuca has not given up on the issue, so it is considering talking to the coach and maintaining the possibility of him being the chosen one.

What changes have been proposed for Mexican soccer?

Through a press conference, it was announced that the playoffs will be removed from Mexican soccer, as confirmed by the president of Liga MX, Mikel Arriola, who assured that the old Liga MX format will be reinstated for the next tournament, the Apertura 2023.

Another of the measures taken by Mikel Arriola is the reduction of foreigners in Liga MX, which, as well as the measure to eliminate the Playoffs, will be implemented as of the Apertura 2023. In addition, the agreement with CONMEBOL to have more intercontinental tournaments between North and South America was confirmed.
