Diego Lainez arrived in Real Betis as one of the most promising Mexican players, given the outbreak season he had with Club América the year before, where his outstanding performances opened the door for his debut in Mexico National Team in 2018.

But since joining the Béticos in 2019, he hasn’t found the regularity he wanted and needed to exploit his capabilities and achieve his full potential, as he hasn’t received the trust of the coaches, added to the injuries that have prevented him from being more time on the pitch.

Every transfer window, rumors of his departure from Sevilla starts rising, as he knows that he won’t find in Betis what he’s lacking, playing time, but so far, Betis has prevented him from leaving, even if it was on a loan that could earn him more minutes.

But now, even with all the difficulties he’s had to open a place for him in the roster, Real Betis has decided to add more competence to his position, as they announced the permanent move of Luiz Henrique out of Brazilian side Fluminense.

What will Lainez do?

It’s yet to be seen what happens with Lainez once Enriquez arrives in Betis over the summer but given that the Béticos paid $14.5 million for the transfer of the 21-year-old right-winger, the opportunities of staying in Real Betis are minimal for Lainez.

The movement also arrives amidst rumors of Diego Lainez feeling betrayed by both Ángel Haro and Manuel Pellegrini, who convinced him to stay in Betis with the promise of giving him more playing time, as he was set to leave during the winter transfer window looking for more playing time.

Lainez was linked to multiple teams in January, who were asking Betis to acquire him on a loan that would have benefited all the parties involved, as Lainez would’ve had more playing time, increasing his market value and gaining regularity, but Pellegrini wanted to have Lainez warming the bench.

Lainez’s season with Real Betis

The 21-year-old right-winger has played only 76 minutes in 2022, being the last time he jumped in the pitch over a month ago, where he played just 24 minutes. So far, in the 2021-22 season he’s been part of Real Betis in only 10 games, scoring just two goals in Copa del Rey.
