Diego Lainez does not play for Real Betis and Rayo Vallecano's need to reinforce the winger position after the serious injury of Martin Merquelanz is a priority and one of the players who are in the pipeline as a possible reinforcement in this winter market is the Mexican winger, according to EFE.

Lainez, who has only played nine games this season with Real Betis in 326 minutes, is one of the names that Rayo is considering to reinforce the winger, although the club points out that "he is not the only one and there are also other players who are interested" since they always work with a list that "can sometimes reach ten names per position".

The Mexican footballer, who is currently focused with the Mexican national team to play several qualifying matches for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is in his fourth season at Betis, a club he joined in January 2019 from América.

"At the moment we lose Martin Merquelanz we have the gap of a player that we considered that was going to give us a lot. Now is the position that I think we need to reinforce, I have transmitted it to the club and they will have to make the decisions," said Iraola before the last game against Athlétic Bilbao.

He hopes to have many more minutes in Madrid

It is worth noting that, although Lainez would have told the team his desire to succeed in the Sevillian entity, the winger would have changed his mind if he is assured to get a significant amount of minutes with the eighth-placed team in LaLiga.

Rayo Vallecano had already tried to get Diego Lainez on loan in mid-2020 when Paco Jémez, former Cruz Azul coach, was in charge of the Madrid club. Almost two years later, it seems that the player is still of interest in the Spanish capital.

When is the last date for Diego Lainez to leave Real Betis?

The winter transfer window in the main European leagues is about to close in the next few days and Spain is no exception. It will be next Monday, January 31, when the transfer period in Iberian soccer will come to an end.

Therefore, Lainez will have that date as a deadline to reach an agreement with one of the interested clubs. Otherwise, he will continue to wait for an opportunity with Betis, with whom he has a contract until June 2024.
