It’s no lie to say that Nicolás Larcamón is currently the best coach in Liga MX, and has showed why, sometimes, is not the money a team has what gives them the results, but an outstanding planification and the convincing power to make all the players follow one same idea throughout the whole game.

Those are the same things that Mexico National Team is missing with Gerardo “Tata” Martino, as they often rely on the individualities of a few players like Hirving “Chucky” Lozano, Jesús “Tecatito” Corona or Raúl Jiménez to save the games.

It happened on the past FIFA match window, where they had to wait until the last minutes of the game in Jamaica to finally open the score, and then in Estadio Azteca, where they barely managed to beat Panama after Raúl Jiménez scored the lone goal from the penalty mark.

Mexican Football Federation are still looking for potential replacements for Gerardo Martino if he fails to beat USMNT, Honduras and El Salvador in the last CONCACAF Qualifiers match window, and after the demonstration of his tactical planification in the 3-2 victory over Chivas, Larcamón is on the top of the list.

Will he arrive in El Tri’s dugout?

For now, the only way in which Larcamón could take over the job is after the FIFA match window, if Martino gets fired, as he has said in the past that he thinks Mexico National Team is in good hands with Martino on the dugout.

The other thing that must happen to open the door for his arrival in El Tri is the end of Clausura 2022, as Larcamón won’t leave La Franja while the tournament is still going on, although he might stay in Puebla if he’s able to make Los Camoteros Liga MX champions again, after 31 years of drought.

In case both things happen, Larcamón already knows that Rogelio Funes Mori won’t be part of his squad, as the Monterrey striker hasn’t showed why he should be considered to wear El Tri colors. Instead, he’d try to convince Carlos Vela to play for Mexico once again, as he’s currently the deadliest striker Mexico has.
