Mexican Football Federation is having trouble finding a coach that can and wants to replace Gerardo Martino in the final stretch of the 2022 FIFA World Cup cycle if needed, as “Tata” will be in El Tri’s bench at least until the next FIFA match window ends.

Martino will face his most challenging match window in March, when El Tri receives USMNT and El Salvador in Estadio Azteca and visits Honduras. If he manages to beat them, especially USMNT after losing three games on a row against them in 2021, he’d guarantee his stay with the Aztecs for the World Cup.

But if El Tri loses again against the Bars and Stripes, FMF wants to be ready to replace Martino, and so far, their attempts have been unsuccessful, as Miguel Herrera declined the offer and now Jaime Lozano decided to continue his career in Liga MX, as he just joined Necaxa.

Who is FMF’s new option to replace Martino?

Although he’s just starting his career in Mexico, Nicolás Larcamón has impressed everyone by making Club Puebla regain protagonism in Liga MX, as so far, he’s managed to reach semifinals and quarterfinals in his two first tournaments with La Franja.

For Clausura 2022, Larcamón has Club Puebla as the leader of Liga MX, as in four rounds, Los Camoteros have won three games and tied the remainder one. He’s known for making the most out of any roster, something that, alongside the sponsorship of TV Azteca, will place him in El Tri’s bench if Martino fails.
