Guillermo Ochoa, the Mexican goalkeeper, has left an indelible mark on the history of Mexican soccer. With a career spanning more than a decade, Ochoa has become one of the most recognized and loved goalkeepers by Mexican fans. However, it seems that his present with the Mexican National Team is not the best, as he was left on the bench during the friendly matches against Valencia and the United States national team.
According to the former coach of Mexico, Miguel Herrera, this did not leave Ochoa at all happy, who had already expressed his annoyance for not playing. “We made it clear that I was not coming to be a bench player, I am obviously coming to this match with the idea that (Aguirre) has, but if he calls me back it is to start playing, and start to compete for a position”, would have been Memo Ochoa's words to Herrera about his role in the Mexican National Team.
Since his debut in 2005, Ochoa has been a fundamental pillar in goal for the Mexican National Team. His talent, reflexes and leadership have led him to five World Cups (Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022), making him one of the few goalkeepers to achieve this feat.
Throughout his international career, Ochoa has made spectacular saves that have been engraved in the memory of fans. His interventions in key matches, such as the duel against Brazil in the Brazil 2014 World Cup, have catapulted him to worldwide fame.
His ability to fly through the corners and make impossible saves have made him an impassable wall for opposing strikers. In addition to his technical skills, Ochoa stands out for his leadership and his ability to transmit confidence to his teammates. In that sense, Miguel Herrera pointed out that despite being unhappy about being a substitute, Ochoa would have acted as a leader and advisor to Luis Ángel Malagón and Raúl Rangel during the last international break.
Ochoa has not only stood out for his performances on the field, but also for his professionalism and commitment to the Mexican National Team. His example has inspired thousands of young Mexican soccer players to dream of representing their country on the highest stages of world soccer.
The Mexican goalkeeper has been a reference for the new generations of Mexican goalkeepers. His career shows that with hard work, dedication and talent, great goals can be achieved.
Despite his age, Ochoa continues to demonstrate a high level and seems to have no intention of retiring from professional soccer. His experience and leadership are fundamental for the Mexican National Team, which seems to continue counting on him to face the next challenges.
