Although Club América is just three games away from lifting a new trophy, they still need to beat CF Pachuca first in the semifinals of Clausura 2022, as Los Tuzos saved a draw from their visit to Estadio Azteca on the first leg.

Could Memo Ochoa save Nicolás Ibáñez's penalty and save Club America? The media says yes

Club América opened the score on the second half thanks to Diego Valdes, who has become the top scorer for Las Águilas in Clausura 2022, as he found the net on five occasions during the regular season and two in Liguilla. Unfortunately, Nicolás Ibañez equalized the game at the end of the regular time.

But even if Las Águilas have Valdes to save the games, they still need a striker that can complement what the 28-year-old offensive midfielder does, as the responsibility of scoring shouldn’t reside just in one player.

Neither Henry Martín nor Federico Viñas have been able to contribute consistently, as Martín scored three goals and Viñas just one, something that could hurt Club América’s aspirations in the second leg of the semifinals if Valdes doesn’t score.

Germán Berterame, their top option

In Club América they know that adding at least a new striker for Apertura 2022 is a top priority if they want to keep playing at the same level, which is why they are looking to acquire one of the top strikers in Liga MX.

Thanks to Germán Berterarme, Atlético San Luis were able to keep afloat in Clausura 2022 until André Jardine took over the team and helped them make it into Liguilla. His scoring streak is something that Club América currently lacks and that’s why they have targeted him to be their new striker.

Fernando “Tano” Ortíz personally requested his addition now that he will remain in Las Águilas’s dugout for at least two more years, according to reports from TUDN. The best of all is that he could arrive for free, as he will become a free agent at the end of the season.

Can Las Águilas sign him?

During an interview with Fox Sports, Santiago Baños, sporting director of Club América, said that the interest in Berterame is real, but unfortunately for Las Águilas, Atlético San Luis already agreed to a new contract with him. His arrival can still happen, but América will have to pay $10 million.
