Why will the friendly be played?

The match between Manchester City and America represents one of two games the Sky Blues will play in the United States for their pre-season build-up to the 2022-23 campaign.

The match between the Azulcrema and the British team, as announced by Lone Star Sports and Entertainment, the company in charge of organizing the event, will take place on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. CT at NRG Stadium in the city of Houston in the United States (tickets will be on sale starting April 28 through www.Isse.net/copadelonestar).

Manchester City made its announcement on social media

"Our first stop will be Houston, where we will face Club America in our first preseason exhibition match. Houston is a city we are familiar with and we have had the privilege of playing at NRG Stadium before. Houston welcomed us with southern hospitality when we came for preseason in 2017 and we are looking forward to seeing our Texan fans again," said Omar Berrada, director of soccer operations for City Football Group.

NGR Stadium

Home to the Houston Texans and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, NRG Stadium has also hosted numerous major sporting events, including two Super Bowls, two NCAA Men's Final Fours, the Copa America, the Gold Cup and several international soccer matches for the U.S. men's and women's national teams, the Mexican men's national team and major soccer clubs from around the world.
