On Thursday night, Club América received CF Pachuca in Estadio Azteca for the first leg of the semifinals of Clausura 2022, on a game that ended in a 1-1 draw thanks to the goals scored by Diego Valdés for Las Águilas and Nicolás Ibañez for Los Tuzos.

Federico Viñas hasn’t fully healed but he was a starter in the Club América vs Pachuca

The Azulcremas were able to open the score sheet first, after Federico Viñas recovered a ball that Luis Chávez lost in the midfield and drove to the box just to shoot and miss, as the ball crashed against Óscar Ustari’s body, although Diego Valdés was ready for the rebound and with a chip shot left Ustari out of the play.

Unfortunately for Las Águilas, when there were less than ten minutes on the clock, Fernando Navarro, who had just entered the game, with a through pass left Avilés Hurtado in front of Guillermo Ochoa and Jorge Sánchez, who tripped him on the box.

Nicolás Ibañez scored the equalizer for Los Tuzos from the penalty mark and gave the slight advantage to Pachuca for the second round, as if the series ends with a draw, the position on the table favors Pachuca as they ended the regular season as leaders of Clausura 2022.

Ortíz knows who is responsible for the lack of goals

During the press conference, Fernando “Tano” Ortíz said that the draw on the first leg leaves the series open, as both teams have a chance of making it into the final, given that it only takes one goal to lean the scale in their favor.

But he also said that the lack of offensive power is what made them miss the opportunity of arriving at Estadio Hidalgo with the advantage on the score, as they had a few opportunities of adding one or two more goals to the score sheet but the lack of aim of the attackers prevented it.

With it, he veiledly said that Federico Viñas and Diego Valdés, who were the closest to scoring, had part of the fault, especially the Uruguayan forward, as he’s characterized throughout Clausura 2022 by the lack of aim, as he only scored one goal in the current season.

Will Viñas leave Club América?

Although “El Tano” Ortíz has a clear preference for Viñas over Henry Martín, who is also going through a drought, if Las Águilas find a new striker for Apertura 2022, Federico Viñas will have to return to the bench, as he hasn’t been able to contribute so far.
