Club América announced the arrival of Jorge Meré, a former Cologne player. The Azulcremas were looking to reinforce their defense after the departure of Emanuel Aguilera to the current Liga MX champions. Finally, they have reached an agreement with the German team and with the Spanish player. In addition, América’s board also closed the signing of Alejandro Zendejas, who arrived from Necaxa and who will play as an offensive midfielder under Solari’s orders.

Who is Jorge Meré?

Jorge Meré Pérez was born in Oviedo, Spain on April 17, 1997, from a very young age he was a player in the youth categories of Real Oviedo, however, he became a professional player with Sporting de Gijón. His debut in La Liga of Spain was on September 23, 2015, in a match against Rayo Vallecano.

Since he started in soccer, he has played as a defender, almost always as a center-back in the teams where he has played.

In 2017, Meré was signed by Cologne in the Bundesliga. After four-and-a-half seasons with the Bavarian club, in which Jorge Mére played a total of 100 games, his future has fallen to Mexico to take on an interesting challenge in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

He has experience in the Spanish national team

With La Roja, he has played several matches in youth categories such as U15 and U17 and has even played in important competitions such as the European Championship and the Atlantic Cup.

He will be reunited with an old friend

Jorge Meré will meet an old friend because according to sources around the player, the former Cologne player has a great friendship with Álvaro Fidalgo, current player of América, who would have convinced him to come to Mexican soccer.

Álvaro Fidalgo was in charge of welcoming the player born in Oviedo, Spain, through a video on the Azulcrema club's social networks, as both players met in Spain's youth national teams.

"I remember it was September 2004 if my memory serves me correctly, that's when I met you, I remember when we played ball together, we shared unforgettable moments from the very first moment. Life took us on different paths, but we are still friends from afar. "It is a feeling that cannot be described, but here you will always find passion, courage, and glory; now soccer unites us in this exciting new adventure, we are Aguilas, ready to make the flight," said Fidalgo in the video welcoming Jorge Meré.

He has already signed the contract

Jorge Meré arrived in Mexico City on Tuesday, immediately underwent the pertinent medical examinations in Coapa, and subsequently signed the contract that ties him to the club, thus officially becoming a new player for América.
