Atlas brought in its first reinforcement for the 2022 Clausura. An experienced defender from América, in a negotiation where the most important terms are already closed, so Emanuel Aguilera will wear the current champions jersey.

The 32-year-old Argentinean is in the final stages of finalizing his arrival to the Mexican soccer champion, which is looking for a defender in response to the sale of Jesús Angulo to Tigres UANL

According to Mediotiempo, the negotiation is closed between Atlas and the Águilas and only the last part is missing with the player, who finished his contract in December with the Coapa club, although since that month he was in talks to renew for more tournaments, but it did not materialize.

Aguiler held talks with América but never reached an agreement

Therefore, his only link with América was a temporary renewal contract for having reached a minimum quota of minutes the previous semester, so he will arrive at Atlas as a free player and it is expected that this Tuesday they will arrange it and make it official for Aguilera to travel immediately to Guadalajara.

Aguilera did not play round 1 of the Clausura 2022 due to the fact that he had also tested positive for COVID-19, although in the last few hours his result was negative. Right now the negotiation is close to being finalized.

América will seek its replacement in the next days

Emanuel will leave an indelible mark on the club, having lifted several championships and having entered the top 5 scoring defenders in the club's history.

By freeing up one more foreigner spot in Coapa, the Azulcrema board of directors still has in mind to add more players to the squad and will now focus on bringing in another center back to cover Aguilera's departure.

The Foxes will be Emanuel's third team in Mexico, having joined Xolos de Tijuana in 2016 and moved to América in 2018.

Atlas will keep the base of the squad from last year's tournament

In addition to the defender, Atlas is looking for one more reinforcement option, a striker who would be the last signing for the Clausura 2022.

The current Liga MX champions do not believe they need more reinforcements for the tournament and have their confidence in the team that gave them the championship last December. Diego Cocca’s club will defend their crown with the regular basis of the Apertura 2021.

The Rojinegros debut this Saturday in the tournament hosting Atlético de San Luis, since round 1 against León was moved to January 19, so that both Atlas and León could have an extra week of rest after playing the Final of the Apertura 2021.
