Currently, Antony has helped Puebla to become the leader of the Liga MX in the Clausura 2022 tournament, the goalkeeper has already saved two penalties in the tournament in just six games played. The Puebla fans already see him as a reference and he has won their hearts.

Who is Antony Silva?

Born in February 1984 in Asunción, Paraguay, Silva began his career in the youth team of Club Cerro Corá. In 1999, he made his professional debut and his good performance led him to be hired by Libertad, despite being an avowed Cerro Porteño fan.

After leaving Libertad, he remained in Paraguayan soccer with two other clubs, and in 2008 he signed a contract with Talleres de Córdoba from Argentina, where he only played a total of six games, and in 2009 he moved to Brazil to play for Marília Atlético Clube.

From Talleres, he returned to his country of origin, again. Despite knowing that he was comfortable in the starting lineup, he knew he had to aspire higher and that is why he signed in June 2010 with Deportes Tolima of Colombia, a club that allowed him to make the first jump to the Paraguayan national team and later to be a starter in the Copa America 2015 and 2016.

Antony fulfilled his dream

With enough experience in Copa Sudamericana and Libertadores, and with frequent confrontations with Argentine teams, he raised the bar and emigrated to Independiente de Medellín where he only stayed for one year, to later fulfill his dream of playing in Cerro Porteño.

Although he did not have the best performance with the Ciclón de Barrio Obrero, his experience and trajectory were enough to be sounded out several times by Argentine teams, among them Boca Juniors, which was interested in him not once but twice.

In January 2019 he arrived at Huracán on a free contract, signed a two-year contract and immediately earned a starting place. He participated in both Copa Libertadores and Sudamericana with the Globo, but the early eliminations ended up relegating him to the substitutes' bench.

In addition, his relationship with the management went through a bad moment, since the club had a debt of several months with the goalkeeper and he had declared that he would not accept a renegotiation.

Currently, after playing for Nacional of Uruguay, he is the goalkeeper for Puebla of Mexico, where he seems to be more than established and happy with his performance. Thanks to his high level, he has been the goalkeeper of the Paraguayan national team for several years now.

A national team goalkeeper

Antony Silva has represented Paraguay at different youth levels. In 2001, he was called up by Paraguay for the U-17 World Cup and in 2003 he participated in the U-20 World Cup.

He was called up for his country's senior national team for the FIFA international friendlies on September 3 and 7, 2014.

In 2015 after his arrival to Independiente Medellin he was highlighted by his great performances in the different matches that led the team to the first places of Colombian soccer, therefore he was called for the friendlies of the Paraguayan national soccer team on the two dates corresponding to the month of March of that year to then secure his place in the starting lineup with Paraguay.
