The first leg at the Azteca Stadium ended with a 1-0 score in favor of the Felinos, who were not afraid of the Coloso de Santa Úrsula and dominated the home side.

Having failed to beat Tigres in the first leg, the Cementeros will have to achieve a real feat to reach the semifinals of the Mexican tournament, but what do they need to do to advance to the next stage?

What La Máquina needs to reach the semifinals

Having lost the first leg, Cruz Azul's qualification to the semifinals of Mexican soccer is complicated, since, in order to reach this stage, they need to beat Tigres by a score of more than two goals.

In other words, the only score that would allow the Cementeros to advance to the semifinals of Liga MX 2022 would be 0-2, 1-3, or 2-4. A 1-0 win for the Cementeros or a draw would only advance Tigres to the final automatically due to their place in the overall standings.

Therefore, the team coached by Juán Reynoso must score not one, but two goals to be able to dream of reaching the possibility of competing for the Liga MX title again. But there is one detail that complicates this.

Cruz Azul has not been able to come back after losing the first leg of the match

In fact, of all the big teams in Mexican soccer, Cruz Azul has the worst record in this regard, since in their last 5 Liguillas, they have only been able to come from behind in 1.

The only time they managed to win the first leg of the Liguilla after losing the second leg was in the Guard1anes 2021 tournament when they lost 2-1 in the first leg against Toluca at the Nemesio Diez Stadium.

However, in the second leg, they managed to come from behind to win 1-3 and advance to the semifinals, where they went on to beat Pachuca in the semifinals and later, Santos in the final.

Will the Cementeros manage to come back in Tigres vs Cruz Azul?

But apart from this one occasion, the team has not managed to come from behind in 4 of 5 Liguillas. They failed to try in the Apertura 2013, Clausura 2014, Apertura 2017 and Clausura 2019

Therefore, statistics show that it is very complicated for La Máquina to eliminate Tigres and advance to the next stage of the Playoffs, in order to seek a place in the final of the tournament.
