El Piojo began his career as a manager in 2002 with Atlante and since then has faced La Máquina in the Fiesta Grande on six occasions, four of which were in the quarterfinals.

Herrera has only lost twice against the Celestes in the Fiesta Grande of Mexican soccer, in the 2005 and 2011 Clausura, when he was in charge of Rayados and Atlante, respectively.

Paternity took hold when he managed América

However, during Miguel's two stints with América, he was a real terror for La Máquina, as he never lost any of the four times he faced them in the final phase of Mexican soccer. Herrera's first stint on the Azulcrema bench was from 2012 to 2013, when he won the 2013 Clausura Final against the Cementeros, which they won 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw on aggregate, with the well-remembered goal scored by Moisés Muñoz.

They then met in the 2017 Apertura, this time in the quarterfinals, where the Coapa team advanced to the semis after a series against Cruz Azul that ended in a goalless draw, but Piojo's team advanced by position in the table.

In the 2018 Apertura, they met again in the Final, where the Águilas were crowned 0-2 on aggregate to win their thirteenth Liga MX crown, with a brace from Edson Álvarez in the second leg.

The last time he met them before this Clausura 2022 series was in the 2019 edition, also in the quarterfinals, which ended 2-3 for the Azulcremas, after winning 3-1 in the first leg and losing 1-0 in the second leg.

Now Piojo Piojo has met them again in the Liguilla of Mexican soccer, where he aims to maintain his paternity against La Máquina, as it is their turn to play at home this Sunday, May 15, although the coach will not be on the bench after being sent off in the first leg for complaining to referee Fernando Hernández.
