One of the biggest challenges in Liga MX is to be the coach of a team as big as Club América, as the coach is usually under scrutiny from the first moment they assume the position, and any mistake they make can be the last thing they do as Las Águilas coach.

But that doesn’t erase the fact that if they succeed, it will make them one of the most valued coaches in the league and can even open opportunities in other places, something that Fernando “Tano” Ortíz is currently living.

He arrived at Las Águilas dugout as a last-minute replacement once Santiago Baños and Emilio Azcárraga decided to part ways with Santiago Solari, who left Club América at the bottom of the table with only six points after eight rounds.

The last time that Club América was on a similar position was in the 1957-58 season, when they had two points after seven rounds. But since “Tano” Ortíz took over, Las Águilas have left the bottom of the table and now are fighting for a place in Liguilla, showing there’s more motivation other than money.

How much does Ortíz earns in Las Águilas?

According to a report from El Economista, the average salary for a coach in the U-20 category, where Fernando Ortíz was coaching before he was promoted to the first team as the interim coach for the remainder of the season, is $7,000.

There’s no comparison with both the salaries of the coaches and the performances that the team has had with both Solari and Ortíz, as Solari was earning $5 million per year with a team that didn’t have an idea of how to play, while now Las Águilas have won two games and tied another in the four games that Ortíz has coached them.

If the good results keep coming their way, Fernando Ortíz has a real possibility of remaining as Las Águilas coach for the 2022-23 Liga MX season, an award that will arrive hand in hand with an increasement on his paycheck.

Who is the coach that will arrive in América once Clausura 2022 is over?

When asked about the future coach of Las Águilas once the current season is over, Santiago Baños answered that for now they’re not looking for a coach, and they are hoping that Ortíz proves why he’s on the position he has now, opening the doors for a contract extension for at least one more season.
