Even if he’s only 20 years old, Santiago Giménez has stared to gather reflectors given his outstanding performances with both Cruz Azul and the Mexican national team, where he already debuted and scored one goal.

Giménez didn’t have the best start in Liga MX for the current season, as he had a 5-month drought that he managed to break in February, where he also scored his first brace as a professional player in the 4-1 victory over Toluca.

But after that game, he’s become one of the best players of Cruz Azul, and now that Brayan Angulo is gone, the forward that Juan Reynoso had placed before him, Giménez has taken a protagonist role as the starting striker for La Máquina.

And now that he’s considered as one of the best Mexican strikers thanks to the calls he received from Gerardo “Tata” Martino, his dream of playing in Europe could arrive sooner than expected, as reports suggest that RCD Espanyol is ready to bid hard for him.

What is Espanyol offering him?

It’s true that Espanyol is not one of the top clubs in La Liga, as they currently stand 12, right in the middle of the La Liga standings, with 36 points after 30 games, far from the top spots of the Spanish first division.

But arriving at a club like Espanyol could be beneficial in the long run for Giménez, as the team is not facing problems like relegation, nor has the pressure of having to constantly prove themselves, like FC Barcelona or Real Madrid, which will be a good place to gain regularity in one of the best leagues in the world.

As if that wasn’t enough, if he decided to play for Los Periquitos next season, Espanyol could double his current salary, as he’s currently earning $30,000 per season, a manageable sum for a club from the Spanish top flight.

What will Cruz Azul ask for him?

In Cruz Azul they know that they won’t sell him for less than his current market value, which according to Transfermarkt, is set at $4.5 million, although if he keeps being part of the Mexican national team roster, his value will increase by the end of the season.
