Thanks to Fernando “Tano” Ortíz, Club América is getting out of the crisis in which Santiago Solari left Las Águilas during the first half of Clausura 2022, as the Azulcremas had the worst start in Liga MX in over 70 years, with only six points after 9 rounds.

But in the last 4 games, Las Águilas have earned 10 points as a result of one draw and three consecutive victories that have them fighting to ensure a spot for Repechaje, something that they’ll manage to do if they reach 21 points.

For now, Club América has 16 points after 14 rounds, but both “Tano” Ortíz and the players know that there’s still a lot of work to do if they want to maintain the good streak they currently are, and especially to carry it over to the next season.

Guillermo Ochoa is aware of that, which is why he hasn’t started to negotiate a contract extension with América -his contract expires at the end of Apertura 2022, as he knows he can use it as leverage to improve the roster.

The players he wants in América to renew

Being the leader of Club América on the pitch, Ochoa knows exactly where the roster needs to improve, and he already has two players in mind to help to strengthen Las Águilas lineup, especially if Santiago Baños and Emilio Azcárraga want to retain him.

Ochoa played with them in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where El Tri won the bronze medal after beating 3-1 the Japan U-23 squad, which is why he knows of their skills and abilities, and what they could contribute to Las Águilas.

After the game against FC Juárez, Ochoa shared a picture on social media with Joaquín Esquivel, a defensive midfielder that could help América to maintain possession in the midfield, and Adrián Mora, a center back that could replace Bruno Valdez.

The addition of Adrián Mora could happen sooner than expected, as according to the reports of sports journalist Jonatan Peña, Bruno Valdez has set his mind to leave Club América once Clausura 2022 is over, leaving a spot that Las Águilas will have to fill quickly.
