Cruz Azul already found Juan Reynoso’s replacement prior to the game against Club América

La Máquina has won just one of the last five games they’ve played, a 1-0 victory over Club Querétaro. But what is more worrying is the lack of goals, as they’ve only managed to score twice, against Gallos Blancos and on the 1-1 draw against Mazatlán FC.

The problems of Cruz Azul can be traced back to the sixth round of the current season, when Álvaro Dávila left the institution and was replaced by Jaime Ordiales, who doesn’t have a good relationship with Juan Reynoso.

Given the enmity that exists between them, thing have grown tenser inside Cruz Azul, which has hurt their aspirations on becoming Liga MX champions once again. That’s why Ordiales is already looking for a new coach.

Matías Almeyda is willing to arrive at Cruz Azul

Even if Juan Reynoso is still under contract with Cruz Azul for Apertura 2022, it’s a fact that he won’t remain in La Máquina’s dugout unless Los Cementeros finish the season as champions, something that looks almost impossible.

Matías Almeyda has become the top candidate to replace the Peruvian coach after he decided to resign from San Jose Earthquakes, as he’s never hidden the affection he feels towards Liga MX. According to Almeyda himself, he was close to arrive at Cruz Azul over a year ago.

The only condition that he’s established to arrive at La Máquina is to have control of the sporting decisions, including the players that will leave and the additions that he needs to strengthen the squad, something doable given that above him there will only be Jaime Ordiales.

How much will Cruz Azul have to pay Almeyda?

According to reports, Matías Almeyda earned $2.5 million per season during his stint in the MLS. Given that Juan Reynoso is currently earning $3 million per year in Cruz Azul, La Máquina won’t have any problems paying him a salary similar to the one he had in the Quakes.
