Chivas couldn’t continue with their good performances once they made it to Liguilla, as Atlas FC stopped the unbeaten streak that El Rebaño Sagrado had since Ricardo Cadena took over the team, putting an end to their participation in Clausura 2022.

This would be the first reinforcement Cadena would request from Chivas

Ricardo Cadena was named interim coach after Chivas decided to part ways with Marcelo Michel Leaño after the defeat against CF Monterrey in week 12 of the regular season, and in only two games, Cadena managed to do better than Leaño, as he couldn’t win two games in a row.

Cadena improved that streak up to five games that gave Chivas 12 much-needed points to make it into Repechaje and then eliminated Pumas in the first part of the knockout stage with a 4-1 score, the best result for Chivas in over a year.

But in the quarterfinals, Cadena evidenced his inexperience in Liga MX, as he never found a way of breaking Atlas’s strategy, something that Ricardo Peláez took as the sign he needed to not give in and name Cadena as the coach for Apertura 2022.

Why doesn’t Peláez likes Cadena?

According to reports from TUDN, Ricardo Peláez has interviewed at least five different coaches, as he wants to find the project that convinces him the most for the future of Chivas. Among those coaches, Cadena was not considered.

One of the things for which Peláez dislikes the Mexican coach is because he wasn’t the one that decided to name him as interim coach during Clausura 2022, something that erases him from the success that El Rebaño had.

Reports from sports journalist Miguel Arizpe suggest that Peláez wants to be the one to take the credit of the good results and make Chivas a successful team once again and given that Cadena is not part of his plans, the sudden success that he had could made Amaury Vergara aware that Peláez is not needed in Chivas.

Will Cadena stay at Chivas?

Although he’s not being considered as one of the top options, the fact that El Rebaño hasn’t been able to agree with any of their candidates -Marcelo Bielsa and Diego Aguirre, their top prostects are out of the picture now-, could end up giving Cadena the job for Apertura 2022.
