Chivas have become one of the most irregular teams in Liga MX since Marcelo Michel Leaño arrived in their dugout to replace Victor Manuel Vucetich during Apertura 2021, after Amaury Vergara decided to part ways with him given the poor results he’s had.

Name of Marcelo Michel Leaño's possible replacement at Chivas is already known

Since Michel Leaño took over, El Rebaño Sagrado has played a total of 20 games, from which only five of them have been victories -three of those were on Clausura 2022-. Eight more games have been a draw and the remainder seven were defeats.

For most part of his stint, Amaury Vergara seemed uninterested in the performances of El Rebaño, as every time he was asked about his possible dismissal, he backed up his project, but after Chivas couldn’t win any of the two Clásicos they played, he realized that changes were needed.

That’s why he’s started looking for a coach that replaces Michel Leaño, something that could happen before the end of Clausura 2022, even if there’s only six more games left to be played, although Vergara promised the Mexican coach that he would give him one full season in Chivas’ bench.

His replacement would arrive from Panama

After the elimination of Panama national team from the CONCACAF Qualifiers, the future of Thomas Christiansen is in the air, as he couldn’t help the Panamanians return to a World Cup. If he doesn’t renew, he could arrive in Chivas.

According to reports from Panamanian news media, he already has everything closed to become the replacement of the Mexican coach, but his arrival will become a reality once Clausura 2022 is over and Michel Leaño ends his full season with Chivas.

Who will leave Chivas if Christiansen arrives in El Rebaño?

During his stint in Panama’s dugout, the Spanish coach has established a 4-5-1 formation, as he likes to have just one player up front and secure the midfield, but if he establishes the same system in Chivas, José Juan Macías won’t have a place in El Rebaño.

Since he returned to Guadalajara, Marcelo Michel Leaño changed his formation to a 4-4-2 to give him a companion in the attack to have more chances to score, but if that changes, Ángel Zaldívar fits better the strategy of Christiansen, which means that JJ Macías will have to look for a new team.
