Club América finally was able to win the first game of Clausura 2022 in Estadio Azteca after 11 rounds of the current season, when they beat 3-0 CD Toluca in a game where they overwhelmed Los Diablos for the first 20 minutes, as they scored 3 goals in that span of time.

For the first time in the season, the performance of Las Águilas was better than expected, and the result not only help them leave the bottom of the table, but also give them possibilities of reaching Repechaje, as they currently stand just two points behind Santos Laguna, who are sitting 12, the last place that gives a ticket to the playoffs.

Emilio Azcárraga knows that, at least for now, the best option for Las Águilas to gain momentum is by keeping Fernando “Tano” Ortíz in the dugout for the last six matches of the season, although that hasn’t stopped the Azulcremas owner from looking for a new coach for next season.

But after the crisis that las Águilas are still going through, it became evident that América needs to change more than just their coach, which is why Azcárraga is also considering changing all the administrative structure as well as the sporting one.

Who are the people that will leave América over the summer?

According to reports, Santiago Baños is living his last season as Club América chairman, given that he hasn’t been able to provide the players that former coaches have asked and neither the results needed for a club like Las Águilas.

Since his arrival in Club América in 2017, he has only won one Liga MX title back in 2018, when Miguel Herrera returned to Las Águilas dugout for his second stint. Along him, Joaquín Balcárcel will also leave the Azulcrema structure, as he was indirectly responsible for the arrival of Santiago Solari, who has the team in the current crisis.

The director of the academy teams, Raúl Herrera, will have to wait until the summer to know if he will remain in Club América, pending an evaluation of the performance of the Academy teams in Clausura 2022, although his departure won’t influence the future of “Tano” Ortíz, who is waiting for a contract extension.

“Tano” Ortíz’s future with América

After three games coaching the first team of Las Águilas, Azcárraga is happy with his decision of promoting “Tano” Ortíz, as he’s changed the face of Club América in just a couple of weeks. Ortíz will return to his former position once Clausura 2022 is over, but he’ll do it with a contract extension and a better salary, hoping to establish himself in América for a long time and looking forward to take over the first team in the future.
