Apart from Antuna, other young Mexicans have also moved in the national market, which is why the big teams have targeted them and decide to acquire their services in order to strengthen their signings in the face of the European dream.

In any case, there is a lot of money to be made in the Mexican league and proof of this is the millions of dollars that have been paid for several players, which is why we cover the top 10 of the most expensive players in the history of Liga MX.

10. Jürgen Damm

The winger had good tournaments with Pachuca, which earned him a place on the radar of Tigres in 2015, who decided to sign him for US$10.5 million. He then joined MLS side Atlanta United on 2020 before returning to Mexico with Club America.

9. Darwin Quintero

Quintero dazzled everyone in the Mexican league with key tournaments at Santos. The goal-scoring “scientist” became the headache of all teams with a great dribbling ability, speed and good finishing. In 2015, América acquired his services for 10.7 million dollars.

8. Nicolás López

“El Diente” was a promising Uruguayan player who could have made it to the top. At the beginning of his career, he tried out with teams such as Roma, Granada and Hellas Verona, however, he was unable to show his best level in any of them, so he returned to his country with Nacional, moved to Internacional de Porto Alegre and finally arrived at Tigres in 2020. The Monterrey club paid 10.7 million dollars for his contract.

7. Vincent Janssen

“El Toro” was signed by Tottenham in 2016 for more than 20 million euros. Janssen promised to be an important promise in European football, however, he never managed to stand out, so he went through several teams until he ended up at Rayados de Monterrey, who invested 10.7 million dollars to sign him.

6. Uriel Antuna

The Mexican player shone with Santos at the age of 19, which caught the attention of Manchester City, who signed him for their youth team. The Citizens loaned him to Groningen, where he had ups and downs, and finally sent him to the MLS, to the LA Galaxy team. His time with the U.S. team was not the best, but it served to revalue him. Chivas saw the opportunity to get back a player with a great balance and signed him in 2020 for 11.8 million dollars.

5. Orbelín Pineda

With great campaigns at Chivas and part of the last champion generation of the “Rebaño Sagrado”, Cruz Azul saw in Pineda a necessary piece to fight for the Liga MX title. The Celestes paid 12.5 million dollars for Orbelín, who has proved on the field what he was worth.

4. Víctor Dávila

Dávila was one of those important South American signings for Necaxa. The Rayos have had a good eye for bringing in foreigners who perform at a high level and the Chilean was no exception. Pachuca was interested in the striker and in 2018 invested 12.6 million to sign him.

3. Maximiliano Meza

The Argentine had only been in his country's soccer until a few years ago. In 2012 he moved up to the first team of Gimnasia, until 4 years later he arrived at Independiente de Avellaneda with whom he played 79 games, in which he scored 9 goals and gave 14 assists, which earned him the eye of Rayados de Monterrey, who bought him in 2019 for 15.5 million dollars.

1 and 2. Rodolfo Pizarro

As one of the most interesting jewels of his generation, the Pachuca youth player left a large amount of money in the Hidalgo club coffers. Los Tuzos sold him to Chivas for $16.9 million in 2016, a team with which he emerged champion. Subsequently, Pizarro moved up to second place among the most expensive players when he moved again, this time to Monterrey for 16.6 million.
