With the Águilas' rumored interest in Luis Suarez on the rise, it's worth taking a look back at the most expensive signings in the history of Club America, one of the most dominant teams in Mexican soccer.

The millionaire it would cost Club América to get Luis Suárez. Does the possibility vanish?

And while the chances of the Uruguayan striker joining the Coapa club have practically vanished, it is important to review the players who were able to join the team, despite the stratospheric price of their signings.

These are the most expensive signings in Club America's history

Oribe Peralta

The player joined the Coapa club in the 2014 Apertura tournament for just over 7 million dollars, and had a long and prolific romance with the Águilas, scoring 73 goals and providing 27 assists in 216 games, making him one of the team's key players.

Peralta arrived at the club at the age of 30, but at the peak of his scoring ability, which had already begun to show since he was at Santos Laguna, a club that was patient enough for him to begin to develop as a goal scorer.

Peralta left the club in the 2018 Clausura and went to play for the Águilas' fiercest rival, Chivas where the player would be unable to repeat his goal-scoring streak by the end of his stay at Club Deportivo Guadalajara, the player decided to retire.

Rubens Sambueza

The Argentine midfielder arrived at the Nest of Coapa in the 2012 Apertura Tournament for a price of just over 7 million dollars and, although he did not become the benchmark of the team that the management expected, the player gave his best during the 193 matches he played wearing the Azulcrema uniform.

In those 193 games, the Argentinean only scored 23 goals and provided 47 assists, which is why at the end of his time with the team, the Azulcrema fans were already asking for his departure from the club, even though he always gave good performances for the team.

Sambueza currently plays for Atlético San Luis, one of the surprise teams in Liga MX 2022.

Christian "Chucho" Benítez

One of the players most missed by the Americanismo, Benítez arrived at the club in the 2012 Apertura Tournament, at a price of just over 8 million 400 thousand dollars, a price that was paid by the player in each of his brilliant performances.

"Chucho" became a benchmark for the team and an idol for the fans, who showered him with praise in each of his matches, because in his 79 games he scored 52 goals and provided 15 assists, which made the Azulcremas fans go crazy with happiness.

His last game with this club was on May 26, 2013, at the Azteca Stadium, where they have crowned champions of the 2013 Clausura after winning 2-1 (4-2 on penalties) against Cruz Azul, and on July 6, 2013, he officially left América and signed with El Jaish SC of the Qatar Football League.

But sadly the player would pass away just a few days later of a cardiac arrest, thus beginning his legend as one of Club America's greatest and most beloved players.

Roger Martinez

With a cost of almost 9 million dollars, the Colombian left-winger arrived in the 2018 Apertura Tournament, and in his 138 games with the Águilas, he managed to score 30 goals and provided 14 assists, so his stay on the team has been very productive, however for the Azulcremas fans his work has not been enough.

And it has been these fans who have recently insisted that he leave the team, pointing out that he does not run on the field, and that he gives very bad passes that crash into the rivals, and even, in recent days, he responded to criticism from the fans to the team's forwards.

Azulcrema fans said on social networks that the team's forwards have no goals, to which the player responded that "it doesn't matter who scores the goals".

Darwin Quintero

The Colombian left-winger arrived at the Azulcrema team in the 2015 Clausura Tournament, for 9.5 million dollars being the most expensive signing in the history of the Eagles team, and one that never ended up convincing the always demanding fans.

In his 145 games with the Águilas, the player scored 26 goals and provided 30 assists, before leaving for Major League Soccer, where he continues to play to this day.
