The executive attended the final of the Liga MX U-20 tournament in which the Águilas were crowned at the Azteca Stadium, a day before the start of the semifinal match of the Clausura 2022 tournament.

At the end of the match, the manager congratulated his team and was assaulted by the Mexican media, who asked him the question that all Azulcremas want the answer to: will Fernando Ortiz stay at the helm of the team?

Baños questions Ortiz's continuity a few hours before the Pachuca vs Club America match

Just a few hours before the most important match of the year for the Águilas, Santiago Baños, Club América's sports president, questioned the continuity of Santiago Baños at the helm of the team.

When asked if "Tano" would continue at the helm of the Azulcrema squad, the executive responded:

"Tomorrow we have an important match in Pachuca, then we will calmly resolve the pending issues. We hope to continue with a good pace in the other categories".

In this way, the Azulcremas' executive questioned the continuity of the interim coach at the helm of the Águilas, just one day before the team plays Pachuca at the Huracán, a stadium where the Tuzos have remained practically unbeatable.

At the event, Baños also talked about how much the departure of Fernando Ortiz from the Club America U-20 head coaching position affected the team but said he was satisfied with the result as the goal was achieved in the end.

"The Tano arrived late also due to paperwork issues, then with his departure from the U20s it got a little complicated, but the objective was achieved with Diego Cervantes."

Club America goes against history

If Club America were to beat the Tuzos, it would be the first team to do so in the entire Clausura 2022 Tournament, although the Águilas have a very poor record against Pachuca in the Liguilla.

Club America has not beaten Pachuca in the semifinals of Mexican soccer since the 2012 Clausura Tournament, in which they managed to defeat Pachuca with a 3-2 score, at least in that tournament.

However, that was the last time the Águilas overcame the Tuzos, since in the Clausura 2015 and Grad1anes 2021, competitions in which both teams met again, Pachuca eliminated the Azulcremas.
