Club América are preparing to face CF Pachuca in the second leg of the semifinals of Clausura 2022 after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw that didn’t benefit Las Águilas’s aspirations, as now they must win on their visit to Estadio Hidalgo if they want to make it into the final.

But while the roster is currently focused on their quest for a new Liga MX title for América, Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños are already planning what will be the 2022-23 season for Club América, as reports suggest that they will extend Fernando “Tano” Ortíz’s contract.

“El Tano” Ortíz has coached Club América since week nine of Clausura 2022 and is just three games away from writing one of the best comeback stories in the history of Mexican soccer, as he took the team when they were at the bottom of the table and now are fighting for his first title.

But the movements that Azcárraga and Baños are planning doesn’t end up there, as they know that Las Águilas need quality reinforcements to keep the momentum going into the next season, which is why they are looking to add one of the biggest free agents.

Club América already asked for Luis Suárez

Azcárraga knows that one thing that Club América has been missing since the start of the century is a top player like they were used to do in the past, as Iván Zamorano was the last big addition that Las Águilas have had.

That’s why they are looking to sign Luis Suárez, who will become a free agent after Atlético Madrid visits Real Sociedad. Suárez, who is 35 years old, is looking to have regularity in the upcoming months to be ready for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

According to reports from Jorge Ramos from ESPN, América already asked about Suárez and showed him the project that they are building around “Tano” Ortíz, but the sources informed that Suárez is going to wait until he has all of the offers from the clubs interested in him to decide.

What can Club América do to convince him?

The main thing that could lean the scale for Las Águilas is the salary that they can offer him. For now, Guillermo Ochoa is the highest-paid player in the roster, as he earns $4 million, but Club América is willing to offer Suárez between $6.5 million and $7 million.
