After five straight game winning, something that helped Chivas reach Liguilla for the first time in over a year, El Rebaño Sagrado couldn’t continue their good streak and were eliminated by Atlas FC in the quarterfinals of Clausura 2022.

One of the things that prevented them from keep progressing in the competition was the lack of a solid striker that could score consistently, as Ángel Zaldívar only scored three goals in the season, all of them while Marcelo Michel Leaño was still coaching Chivas.

José Juan Macías, the other forward on the team, scored only two goals in the regular season. although he only played eight games. In the playoffs, the 21-year-old striker managed to score two more goals, although they weren’t enough to help El Rebaño.

The top striker of the Rojiblancos was Alexis Vega, as he scored five goals in the regular season and one more in Repechaje, but he disappeared in quarterfinals, which benefited Atlas, as he was the biggest threat that Chivas had through the season.

They need a new striker and could have him thanks to Club América

It’s yet to be seen who is going to be the coach that Amaury Vergara and Ricardo Peláez decide to sign for Apertura 2022, as the already lost Diego Aguirre to Cruz Azul, as he was their top option after Marcelo Bielsa declined to return to Liga MX.

But regardless of the coach, they know that if they want to avoid having another season as irregular as Clausura 2022, they need to start strengthening their offense. According to reports from W Deportes Radio, Club América will place Henry Martín as transferable during the summer.

Ricardo Peláez has said in the past that he has been eyeing Martín since he was in Xolos de Tijuana, and now is his opportunity to finally acquire him. His addition to Chivas could help both parties, as Martín needs more playing time to recover his confidence prior to Qatar 2022 and El Rebaño a striker other than Zaldívar.

How much will they have to pay for him?

According to Transfermarkt, the 28-year-old Mexican striker has a market value of $5 million, but a swap of players is not discarded to lower the fee that they’d have to pay, something that they were close to do last season, when they tried to acquire Sebastián Córdova.
