Since José de Jesús “Chuy” Corona got injured during the warm-ups prior to the game against CF Montréal for the second leg of the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League, Sebastián Jurado has taken the starting role for Cruz Azul for the past few weeks.

He’s worse than Brayan Angulo but Juan Reynoso wants him for Cruz Azul

Jurado had a breakout season in 2019, when he became the star of Tiburones de Veracruz by stopping almost every shot that went his way, which is why Cruz Azul decided to acquire him as a reliable back up for “Chuy” Corona until he decided to retire.

Since then, Jurado had to wait in the bench for over two years, something that has diminished his shape and has made him an irregular goalkeeper, as he’s proved on his recent performances, where it’s more than obvious the lack of confidence he has.

Juan Reynoso keeps giving him the chance in his starting XI trying to help him earn both his shape and confidence back, as he knows that Corona’s stint is coming to an end very soon. But given that Jurado hasn’t proved to be the same goalkeeper that he was with Veracruz, La Máquina is already looking for a new goalkeeper.

Who is the goalkeeper that Cruz Azul wants?

It’s yet to be seen what will happen with Cruz Azul for the next season, as they will have to acquire multiple players to solve the weaknesses that they’ve showed during Clausura 2022, including the lack of competition in the offense.

The departure of Brayan Angulo a week ago made a priority for La Máquina to find a new striker, maybe even two if Santiago Giménez ends up leaving for Europe, and although Cruz Azul has Carlos Acevedo as their first option to replace Corona, they might not be able to acquire him.

If Acevedo doesn’t arrive at La Máquina, Los Cementeros have a second option, and they wouldn’t have to pay for him as Andrés Gudiño’s economic right belong to Cruz Azul, although he left on a loan for the current season given the few opportunities he had in Cruz Azul.

Andrés Gudiño’s numbers in the season

During Apertura 2021, Gudiño had the chance of playing in a few games for Cruz Azul, as he was part of six games, in which he had one clean sheet and received seven goals. For Clausura 2022, he joined Liga de Expansión side Tepatitlán FC, where he’s played 11 games so far, with four clean sheets and 12 goals.
