After the 1-1 draw that Cruz Azul had on their visit to Mazatlán FC on Friday night, it became evident that La Máquina needs to strengthen their offense, as neither Iván Morales nor Santiago Giménez were able to give their team the three points.

Who is Rodrigo Huescas, Cruz Azul's talented and promising player?

Juan Reynoso decided to give some of the starters a rest, as they still have to face Pumas UNAM on Tuesday to try to comeback the 2-1 defeat that they suffered in the first leg of the semifinals od the CONCACAF Champions League.

And even if Brayan Angulo wasn’t going through a good moment, his departure a week ago after he negotiated to rescind his contract with La Máquina executives, left Cruz Azul with a shortage that Reynoso will have to deal with until the end of the season.

The Peruvian coach used the game against Mazatlán to give playing time to two of the strikers Cruz Azul have: Iván Morales and Rodrigo Huescas, but he knows that they have to start looking for another striker to add for next season to improve competition within the roster.

Who is the striker that Reynoso wants?

Juan Reynoso knows of his abilities as he had him in Club Puebla when he was coaching La Franja, where he even was on the fight to be the top scorer in Apertura 2020, but since he joined Club León, Santiago Ormeño has disappeared.

The 28-year-old Peruvian forward has played in 10 games of Clausura 2022, although he’s only started on two occasions and has scored a single goal, the only one that he’s scored with La Fiera since joining them at the start of the current season.

But Reynoso knows him well and is aware that Ariel Holan hasn’t found him a place where he can gain his scoring streak again given that they have different coaching systems, something he will be able to do in Cruz Azul as he already did in Puebla.

Santiago Ormeño’s market value

According to Transfermarkt, the Peru international, who has played 10 games with La Blanquirroja but has yet to score his first goal, has a market value of $3.85 million, although La Máquina could negotiate with León for a lower transfer fee given the poor performances he’s had with La Fiera.
