Since Fernando “Tano” Ortíz took over Club América, first until Las Águilas found a new coach and then until the end of the season, the Azulcremas have become one of the most offensive teams in Liga MX, as they’ve scored 11 goals and have received only 3.

Fernando Ortíz is not the only reason why Club América remembered how to play soccer

Las Águilas are looking to continue their good streak with a fifth victory in a row, as they’ve won their past games not out of luck, but because they have a plan to follow throughout the 90 minutes and Ortíz’s tactics potentiate the strengths of every player.

Their first victory arrived just before the FIFA match window of March, when they beat 3-0 Toluca. Then, they visited Necaxa on a game that barely won thanks to a late goal by Diego Valdés. They repeated the 3-0 score against FC Juárez and then comfortably won 3-1 against Xolos de Tijuana.

This Wednesday they will receive Club León, team that is tied in points with Las Águilas, with 19, although they’re living a different situation than them, as they’ve won just one of their last five games, something that Club América can take advantage of to finally establish as a contender for Clausura 2022.

Pedro Aquino is ready to return to the starting XI

Pedro Aquino haven’t played with Club América since January, when he was injured and had to go through a foot surgery that kept him out of the pitches for over two months. Luckily for him and Las Águilas, he’s been on the bench for the past two weeks and even had a few minutes on the game against FC Juárez.

Aquino is ready to return to the starting lineup, given that he was Las Águilas best player before his injury, but his return to activity is causing “Tano” Ortíz the first big problem he’s faced since he took over the team, as both Álvaro Fidalgo and Richard Sánchez have complemented perfectly in the past few games.

The 26-year-old Peruvian midfielder will have the chance of proving that he belongs on the starting XI against his old team, as Ortíz will give him the opportunity to play given the tight schedule Liga MX has for the next week.

Will he recover his role?

Fernando Ortíz will take the decision after the game against Club León, although if Aquino manages to impress the Argentine coach, the player that most likely will have to give up his spot on the starting XI will be Richard Sánchez, as Fidalgo has been one of the most constant players on the roster.
