Acevedo had been trying to make his way in the Laguna team since he was a child and at the time the club had decided to remove him from the team, but there was an unexpected call that brought him back to the squad.

Carlos Acevedo had been removed from Santos

Nicolás Navarro, Santos' goalkeeping coach, indicated that when the goalkeeper was 16 or 17 years old he left the squad, but the U-17 team suffered an accident in which both goalkeepers were injured and this meant Acevedo's return to the team.

"He had some kind of problem when he was 16 or 17 years old. They took him off the team, they cut him, there were two goalkeepers on that team and on a trip, I don't know if it was to Mexico, on the way back the truck crashed and the two goalkeepers got hurt, so they didn't have a goalkeeper".

"He was called back, they told him that he would be on trial to play the remaining matches while the other goalkeepers recovered, but with his desire and love for soccer he played them quite well and in the end, he stayed. It is a story with a lot of courage", expressed Nicolás.

After that, the goalkeeper did not give up, he remained in the team's youth teams until he made his debut in the First Division with Los Laguneros on August 20, 2016, in a match against Cruz Azul.

Carlos Acevedo strengthened in the starting lineup with Santos

Since the 2020 season, Carlos Acevedo has established himself as the starting goalkeeper, causing Jonathan Orozco to leave for Tijuana.

The goalkeeper was a starter in the 2021 Clausura with Santos Laguna, who reached the final against Cruz Azul, who ended up losing 2-1 on aggregate.

Now, the goalkeeper has already received two call-ups to the national team. He made his debut against Chile in December 2021 and now, for the FIFA date and after the absence of Jonathan Orozco, the player from Laguna was called to replace him and be able to be in the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers. The Mexican will be an option for the matches against the USMNT, Honduras, and El Salvador.
