Club América is going through one of their biggest crises in recent years, as they currently stand at the bottom of the table with just seven points after 10 rounds played in Clausura 2022, results that got Santiago Solari after eight games.

So far, they’ve won just one game, against Santos Laguna, who were going through a similar crisis than América but now they’ve entered a winning streak. They’ve also tied four more games and lost the remainder five.

With Fernando “Tano” Martino, Las Águilas have lost one game and tied the other he’s coached them, without showing much improvement, which is why Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños are still looking to hire a coach that can turn things around for them.

That’s why they’re considering on signing Ricardo La Volpe and bring him out of retirement, as he knows what Club América is lacking in the current season and has the experience needed to help the team to leave the bottom of the table.

What will La Volpe do?

La Volpe is asking to have at least six months in Las Águilas’ dugout in order to be able to establish a system that could benefit the current roster and the players from the academy teams, as he knows that having only seven games to do that won’t be enough.

If given the opportunity, “El Bigotón” will try open spots in the first team to give young talents the chance of show why they are called to be the next in the line, something he already did with Las Águilas, as he was the coach that debuted Edson Álvarez and Diego Lainez.

Who are the players that La Volpe will debut in Las Águilas?

The first player on his list is Karel Campos, a 20-year-old right-winger that has been asking for a chance for a while now with his outstanding performances with the U-20 squad. Another player is Emilio Lara, the right-back of Las Águilas in the same category.

Lara could play a change-of-pace role for América, something they are lacking in the current roster. Finally, the 18-year-old forward Esteban Lozano, who is the best player in the pitch for both Las Águilas and Mexico National Team U-20 squads.
