Club América is currently going through one of their worst crises, as they have won just one game since October, after losing only two games in the regular season of Apertura 2021, where they were leaders of Liga MX with 35 points.

For the current season they’ve lost five games, tied four more and won their only match against Santos Laguna by a 3-2 score. but one of the most worrying teams of their recent performances is the inability of keeping a clean sheet.

Guillermo Ochoa has managed to keep only two clean sheets in the 10 games that Las Águilas have played in Clausura 2022 so far, as they’ve received multiple goals in all the other games except for one game, their debut in the season against Club Puebla.

And given that things don’t seem to be getting better anytime soon, the crisis of Las Águilas could aggravate as now some of their most distinguished players are thinking of leaving El Nido, including Guillermo Ochoa.

Who could be Ochoa’s replacement?

According to reports, if Ochoa doesn’t renew his contract, one of the options that Las Águilas have to replace the Mexico international goalkeeper is former Chivas Antonio Rodríguez, who currently plays for Club Querétaro.

But with the potential relocation of the team, it’s evident that some of the players won’t be part of the roster that plays for the new franchise next year, and given that Rodríguez is represented by PitZGroup, who has a close relationship with Santiago Baños, he could be the goalkeeper that’s under the goal for América next season.

Why does Ochoa don’t want to renew?

Guillermo Ochoa signed a three-year contract when he first agreed to arrive in Las Águilas in 2019, with the idea of renewing for at least three more years once the time arrived, something that will not happen given that América has strict policies of giving players over 30 years a year-to-year contract, in which they value their performances and decide if they want to continue their agreement after each season.

That didn’t sit well with Ochoa, who wants to have a guaranteed contract for at least two more years, which is why he’s considering leaving Club América at the end of his contract, especially after a few MLS teams have asked about his decision of retiring in the United States’ top flight.
