Club América is going through their worst start in Liga MX in over 64 years, as they currently stand second to last in Liga MX table after seven rounds with just 5 points as a result of one victory, two draws and four defeats.

We must go all the way back to the 1957-58 Liga MX season to find a worst start for Las Águilas, when they only earned two points after seven rounds, which is why people are wondering why Emilio Azcárraga keeps Santiago Solari in Las Águilas bench.

Reports suggested that Azcárraga gave Solari a grace period before deciding if he continues as América’s coach. Such grace period ended last weekend when Solari managed to earn a point on their visit to Pumas in Ciudad Universitaria.

The point earned on Saturday night gave Solari another week as Las Águilas front man, although they will have to earn points from their matches against Querétaro and Monterrey, as it will be a short week and will face Gallos Blancos on Tuesday and then will visit Rayados on Saturday.

What will happen if they don’t earn points?

Solari knows he’s living on borrowed time, as results haven’t backed him up since América’s defeat in the CONCACAF Champions League final against Monterrey. But one of the biggest problems he’s facing is in the dressing room, as reports suggest that the lack of communication with his players is the main reason of the current crisis.

The players don’t feel part of a family in Club América, as Solari coaches through imposition and order, something that the players don’t relate to, as they’re used to a coach that teaches through conversation and bonding with them, something that Gilberto Adame does.

Who is Gilberto Adame?

Adame is a Mexican former defender, who played his whole career in Liga MX, wearing several colors until he retired in 2008 with Liga de Expansión team Tampico Madero. Since then, he’s been assistant coach in a few Liga MX teams, until he arrived in El Nido, where he’s been since 2017.

Although Gilberto Adame is part of Santiago Solari’s coaching staff, he answers directly to Santiago Baños, given that he’s an institutional coach and wasn’t part of Solari’s staff when he first arrived. Adame could benefit from Solari’s departure as he’d be the immediate replacement and will become the interim coach until Baños and Azcárraga find the long-term solution.
