Since Fernando “Tano” Ortíz became Club América coach to replace Santiago Solari, who had poor results during the eight rounds he coached Las Águilas in Clausura 2022, The Azulcremas have become one of the best teams in Liga MX.

Fernando Ortíz is not the only reason why Club América remembered how to play soccer

On the six games that Ortíz has been in Las Águilas’ dugout, América has earned 13 points out of the 18 they’ve disputed, although the only defeat they have was on the first game he coaches, as he only had two days to train with the first team.

One of the things that Ortíz has done to improve the performances of the Azulcremas was to change the 4-3-3 scheme that Solari was stuck with and instead he analyzes the rival and structures the team according to it, boosting the strengths of his players.

This coaching system has helped players like Alejandro Zendejas find their best shape and has even become an essential player for Fernando Ortíz, something that he couldn’t do with Solari, even if the Argentine coach was the one who requested his addition.

Zendejas with the opportunity of playing in El Tri

Gerardo “Tata” Martino is still unsure with some of the players that he usually calls to Mexico National Team, as they have underperformed when they wear El Tri colors, which is why he’ll use the friendly game of April 27 against Guatemala to try new players.

Martino has been going to the Liga MX stadiums to follow the players he considers could have a chance on the roster, not only for the friendly games but also for Qatar, and one of those players is Alejandro Zendejas.

According to reports from Marca Claro, Martino already confirmed Zendejas’ presence in El Tri’s roster for the game against Guatemala, opening the door for his return to El Tri, as he’s played just one game for the Aztec squad, in October against Ecuador.

Can he make it to the World Cup?

The 24-year-old midfielder has big chances of making it into the final roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, given that he’s a polyvalent player that can also play as a left-winger. If he manages to impress Martino, the Argentine coach will consider him for the upcoming games and the World Cup.
