Club América arrives to the round 8 of Clausura 2022 with the duty of earning points no matter what, as they could be standing last if they don’t manage to at least tie against Club Querétaro, as they will receive Gallos Blancos in Estadio Azteca on Tuesday night.

The Mexican that will benefit from Santiago Solari’s dismissal from Club América

Santiago Solari knows he’s living on borrowed time, as the point earned against Pumas meant an extra game being on Las Águilas bench, and even if it will be a short week in Liga MX, a bad result against Querétaro will be the straw that broke the camel’s back and will seal his departure from América.

He will have to place his best players on the pitch if he wants to beat a Gallos Blancos squad that haven’t lost a game since Hernán Cristante took over the team, as they’ve won against Mazatlán FC and tied against CF Pachuca and Toluca.

On the other hand, Las Águilas lost their two previous encounters, - 2-1 against Mazatlán and 3-1 against Pachuca- before finally managing to keep a clean sheet in the scoreless draw of last weekend, which meant a fresh breath of air that they will try to take advantage of.

Who will arrive to El Nido if they lose?

Reports suggest that Emilio Azcárraga already is negotiating with former América player, Alfredo Tena, who is ready to take over the challenge as soon as Solari is out of the door, although the coach that will immediately replace him would be Gilberto Adame, at least as an interim coach against Monterrey, given that he’s part of Solari’s coaching staff and the players trust him.

Alfredo Tena’s numbers in Club América

If his arrival becomes a reality, it will be Tena’s third stint as Las Águilas coach, after his 17-year stint as Club América player, where he earned the nickname of “Capitán Furia”. His first time in América’s dugout was during the 1999-00 Liga MX season, although he left before being able to win a title.

He then returned as an assistant coach in 2006, before taking a 5-year break from coaching. His last stint as Las Águilas coach was in 2011, prior to his departure to La Liga side RCD Espanyol, where he was an assistant coach from 2012 to 2014.
