After Club América lost the opportunity of earning three points and their first victory of Clausura 2022 in Estadio Azteca on Tuesday night, with a last-minute goal of Querétaro FC, they finally decided that it was time to part ways with Santiago Solari.

In addition to the poor results, these were the reasons why Santiago Solari was dismissed

Although last season Las Águilas were Liga MX leaders with only two defeats in the regular season of Apertura 2021, Solari couldn’t keep up the rhythm and the Azulcremas fell behind in Clausura 2022, as they have only earned six points throughout eight rounds, numbers that are alarming for a club like América.

Las Águilas followers were asking for his dismissal several weeks ago, but Baños and Emilio Azcárraga hoped that the Argentine coach would find a way to turn things around, something that seemed plausible after the scoreless draw against Pumas.

But now, after not being able to win in Estadio Azteca against a team that’s going through a rebuilding process, Club América decided that they couldn’t wait longer and rescinded Solari’s contract, opening the door to multiple names to be linked with the Azulcremas, although Santiago Baños already has a coach in mind to replace Solari.

Who is the coach that Baños wants in Club América?

Baños knows that what América needs right now is a coach that understands how Las Águilas work, as well as having a strong personality to control what happens in the locker room, something that Solari wasn’t able to do in his last weeks.

That’s why he’s considering having Ricardo La Volpe back, as he did in 2016, when Ignacio Ambriz left El Nido. The arrival of La Volpe could only be temporary, until Clausura 2022 is finished, but with his help they will try to leave the bottom of Liga MX table.

Is La Volpe willing to return to América?

“El Bigotón” hasn’t coached since 2019, when he was in Toluca’s dugout, which opens the door for an immediate arrival in Club América. The only condition he would place to take over the team is having access to the academy teams, as he knows they need to reconnect with their bases.

He’s known for giving young players opportunities with the first team, as they could be used as revulsive that changes the game, a thing that Las Águilas desperately need if they want to climb positions in Clausura 2022, a challenge that La Volpe is ready to face.
