When Ricardo Peláez arrived in Chivas, it was to implement a new structure within the club and change how things have developed after Matías Almeyda left, leaving El Rebaño adrift, but in the two years he’s been Sporting Director, he hasn’t changed a thing.
Amaury Vergara has the perfect replacement for Marcelo Michel Leaño in Chivas
His first decision as executive of El Rebaño was spend over $50 million in players that haven’t showed the level required to be part of one of the biggest clubs in Mexican soccer, and instead of helping the team, that spending spree started the crisis in which Chivas currently are.
He then tried to turn thing around by signing Victor Manuel Vucetich, although he couldn’t finish his process because Amaury Vergara intervened and decided to fire him, alleging poor results during his stint.
After that, Amaury Vergara announced the arrival of Marcelo Michel Leaño to Chivas’ dugout, something that not only made things worse in El Rebaño, but it also manifested that Ricardo Peláez doesn’t have a saying in what happens in Verde Valle.
Reports suggest that prior to the arrival of Michel Leaño to the first team, back then he was coaching the academy teams of El Rebaño, Peláez had contacted former FC Barcelona defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano to become Chivas coach.
Although Vergara decided that Michel Leaño was the best option for El Rebaño, given the recent performances, he’s looking for a replacement that can correct thing for Chivas, which opens the door for Peláez to contact Mascherano again, who currently is coaching Argentina National Team U-20.
Although he doesn’t have any experience coaching in a top tier division, the long career he had in Europe, especially in Premier League and La Liga, give him all the background needed to be able to manage a team with the history and reach like Chivas.
When he first arrived in El Rebaño, back in December of 2019, Peláez signed a 2-year contract, but just a month before his relationship with Chivas finished, Amaury Vergara decided to renew him, although this time it was for an indefinite period. He earns $400,000 per season.
If Javier Mascherano arrives in Chivas, these are the three players that will leave
