While Chivas managed to save a 2-2 draw on their visit to Atlético San Luis last Wednesday, the truth is that the team still hasn’t found a style that allows them to be consistent throughout the 90 minutes, as they had a good second half but on the first half they were exhibited by San Luis.

Amaury Vergara doesn’t want to fire Marcelo Michel Leaño for this reason

It was a similar situation to the one against Club Puebla, when El Rebaño played the best 45 minutes under Marcelo Michel Leaño, but then they couldn’t keep up the same energy and La Franja ended winning the game 3-2.

With just four points on their last five games, Chivas’ future looks complicated, especially if Michel Leaño doesn’t leave El Rebaño, as his numbers as Chivas coach are disheartening, to say the least, as they’ve won only 4 out of 16 matches.

Reports suggest that Chivas are already looking for a replacement for Michel Leaño if he doesn’t manage to win this weekend against Santos Laguna, team that slowly is leaving the bottom of the table after Pedro Caixinha was fired, winning their last two games, which is why they’re already in contact with Javier Mascherano.

Who are the players that could lose their job with his arrival?

Although Michel Leaño is the most responsible for the current crisis in which Chivas is in, some of the players on the roster haven’t been able to prove why they’re part of a team like El Rebaño, which is why they will have to start looking for a new club at the end of Clausura 2022.

Javier Mascherano is considered to be part of Pep Guardiola’s school, a coach that likes players that know how to handle the ball and have an offensive style, which is why Jesús Molina, César Huerta and Miguel Ponce might have their days numbered with the Argentine coach on the dugout.

Can Mascherano arrive in Chivas?

Reports suggest that Mascherano was considered to arrive in Verde Vale when Amaury Vergara decided to part ways with José Manuel Vucetich, during Apertura 2021, but in the end, he decided to stick with Michel Leaño, given that he won two games and tied two more in the seven games he was interim coach.

But now that he has proven to not be capable of coaching a team like Chivas, the possibility of having the former FC Barcelona defensive midfielder in Chivas dugout has opened again, as according to Rafael Ramos he’s one of Ricardo Peláez’s favorites, even if he hasn’t coach yet in a top tier.
