One of the best things that happened to Chivas in Clausura 2022 was the decision of Amaury Vergara of breaking his promise and parting ways with Marcelo Michel Leaño before giving him at least one full season as El Rebaño’s coach.

Chivas will replace Alexis Vega with a player that was in FC Barcelona’s radar

Even if the decision feels like it might have arrived a little too late, the three games that Ricardo Cadena has had as interim coach if El Rebaño have been as if the team were waiting for Michel Leaño to leave to start playing good soccer.

Cadena remains unbeaten since he took over Chivas, and with the nine points that El Rebaño has earned, they have ensured their participation in Repechaje, although they’re trying to make sure that they have the home advantage.

But the Mexican coach knows that he needs to improve the starting XI if they want to keep the momentum going, especially the starting striker, as Ángel Zaldívar has scored only three goals, although just one of them in the last 14 games.

Who is the player that can replace him?

Although Cadena knows well the players that are part of the academy teams and CD Tapatío, where Paolo Yrízar has stood out since his arrival at the start of Clausura 2022, Zaldívar won’t be replaced in the starting Xi by him.

On Chivas’ social media it was announced that José Juan Macías has fully recovered from the injury that kept him sidelined for the past three games, making him available for the first time since Ricardo Cadena assume the coaching job at Pumas.

Since the 21-year-old returned from his adventure in La Liga after only six months with Getafe FC, Macías helped Chivas earn four points thanks to the goals he scored against Santos Laguna and Toluca, and he’ll try to improve his scoring streak now that the team is playing better than ever.

José Juan Macías’s numbers with Chivas

Macías was part of the academy teams of El Rebaño until he was loaned to Club León in 2019. After a year with the Panzas Verdes, Macías returned to Chivas. So far, he’s played a total of 83 games, where he has scored 25 goals and assisted 1 time.
