In Club América is needed a big transformation in order to help the team get out of the crisis they currently are. The dismissal of Santiago Solari was the first step, but there’s a lot of things that need to change to be able to return to their usual shape.

Club América might have found the perfect replacement for Santiago Solari

Las Águilas are standing last in Clausura 2022, something that didn’t happen since 2017, but after nine rounds they’ve only managed to earn six points, their worst start in Liga MX since the 1957-58 season, when they had two points after seven rounds.

It was rumored that Las Águilas we're waiting to add Nicolás Larcamón at the end of the season, as he currently is coaching Club Puebla and he's said he's focused on the present season and trying to make La Franja Liga MX champions, ignoring any kind of talking surrounding his future.

That's why they are looking for different options, as América didn't show any improvement with Fernando "Tano" Ortíz on the bench, and Quique Setién, former FC Barcelona coach, is the one that stands out the most.

Will he arrive in Las Águilas?

Setién has said in the past that he's interested in continuing his coaching career -he's been out of activity since parting ways with the Blaugranas at the end of the 2019-20 season- which is why he's a viable option for América.

Given the tradition they have and the spotlight that Club América generates not only in Liga MX but also around the world, Setién could take over the job, as he knows it will be a good challenge and a boost to his resumé, giving that it will

be his first coaching experience outside Spain.

Which players can leave América if Setién arrives?

According to sports journalist Rubén Rodríguez, he’s the first option to arrive in Las Águilas this season, although he will request to have the freedom to build the team as he pleases, given that he wants to have young roster.

If that happens, the most affected players are Guillermo Ochoa, who won’t be renewed and could leave El Nido before his contract expires; Miguel Layún, who ends his contract at the end of the season, and Jonathan dos Santos, who hasn’t been able to earn a place in Las Águilas starting XI.
