The Monterrey side, which has one of the best squads in Mexican soccer, came into the game as favorites against the Egyptian team, but faced an opponent that battled throughout, and took advantage of one of the several dangerous chances to win the game and will now face Palmeiras of Brazil in the semifinals.

This was the first time that Al Ahly defeated Rayados in a Club World Cup after they had faced each other in 2012 and 2013, but the Mexican team won.

The Egyptians were effective

At the start of the match, the Egyptian team had the opportunity to take the lead, but goalkeeper Esteban Andrada was on hand when called upon.

Rayados gradually dominated the actions, pushed forward in search of an advantage on the scoreboard, and generated options through Maxi Meza and Rogelio Funes Mori, but the lack of precision prevented them from taking the lead on the scoreboard.

Al Ahly came close to opening the scoring when Ali Maaloul arrived on the left side, from where he sent in a cross and Mohamed Taher appeared in the box, who shot unmarked, but missed the target, sending the ball into Andrada's hands.

Monterrey generated more chances, but were still ineffective, while their opponents had opportunities that they missed, so the scoreboard remained unchanged.

Al Ahly did not give up in the second half as they sought to take the lead on the scoreboard and it was in the 53rd minute when they scored the 1-0 through Mohamed Hany, who took a powerful shot after a rebound from Esteban Andrada to send the ball into the net.

Despite changes, Monterrey could not manage to tie the game

Monterrey reacted immediately after falling behind, and Maxi Meza came close to equalizing with a header in the box, but goalkeeper Aly Lofty made a timely intervention to send the ball over the crossbar.

Coach Javier Aguirre sent Vincent Janssen and Jesús Gallardo onto the field in an attempt to strengthen the team's attack, but the rival was attentive in the defensive sector to contain Rayados' attempts.

Another element that was also sent to the field was Joel Campbell, but it did not pay off and although Rayados fought for the equalizer, it all came to nothing and in the end, Al Ahly took the victory to advance to the semifinals.
