Since Amaury Vergara took over Chivas in 2019, he hasn’t been able to find a project solid enough to consolidate the team as a contender for Liga MX, as they have been irregular at best, although since Marcelo Michel Leaño arrived in El Rebaño’s dugout, they have been a team that’s adrift.

The coach that will return to Chivas to help them win another Liga MX title

So far, Michel Leaño has coached 20 games since taking over the team during Apertura 2021, having won only five of them. Chivas has tied eight more games and lost the remainder seven, for a total of 23 points out of the 60 available.

For a while, it seemed like Amaury Vergara didn’t realize that as long as Michel Leaño was coaching Chivas, they weren’t leave the middle of the table, as the Mexican coach doesn’t have a real plan and all he’s done is experimenting with the starting XI.

But now, Vergara is aware that things need to change in El Rebaño if they want to return to Liguilla and be a real threat to other teams, which is why he’s considering signing Matías Almeyda to have a second stint with Chivas.

Can Almeyda return to El Rebaño?

During an interview with Fox Sports, Matías Almeyda finally spoke about his future and if he’s going to return to Chivas, a club that he holds close to his heart, given that he was able to win five titles with El Rebaño in the three years that he coached them.

Almeyda accepted that his intention is leaving MLS side San Jose Earthquakes once the 2022 MLS season is over -although it could happen earlier-, as he wants to win titles and the lack of support that he’s had from the Quakes ownership has proved him that he’s not going to achieve it with them.

That’s why he’s looking to leave MLS as soon as he can and opened the door to a return to Liga MX, where he’s willing to arrive to any club except for Club América, and given the situation in which Chivas currently are, he’s the perfect candidate.

He is open to return over the summer

Although he still has a season left on his contract, after declining the offer of Chile National Team, he negotiated with John Fisher the option of leaving without having any repercussions when arrives an offer that convinces him, something that Chivas can do once Clausura 2022 is over.
