Juan Reynoso might be living his last days as Cruz Azul coach after Peru National Team showed interest in signing him to replace Ricardo Gareca if the Blanquirroja doesn’t manage to earn their ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The team that will pay $3 million to steal Juan Reynoso from Cruz Azul

Peru has to win their two games to access to the playoffs, as both Uruguay and Colombia are also pursuing that last place to Qatar 2022. It seems like a difficult task, which is why Peru are looking for potential replacements for Gareca.

If Juan Reynoso ends up leaving over the summer, Cruz Azul will have to look for a new coach, something that Jaime Ordiales is already doing, giving that he never liked having Reynoso as the coach of La Máquina, even if he helped Los Cementeros win their first Liga MX in 23 years.

The coach that for now Ordiales considers to be the best option for Cruz Azul, is the same coach that Chivas and Amaury Vergara were pursuing, given that they don’t plan to maintain Marcelo Michel Leaño as their coach for the 2022-23 season.

Who is the coach that both teams want?

According to reports, Matías Almeyda is leading the race to arrive in Cruz Azul’s dugout, given that he has experience in Liga MX and is willing to return to Mexican soccer, as he hasn’t hidden the affection he feels towards Mexico and their soccer.

For now, Almeyda is still under contract with MLS side San Jose Earthquakes for the remainder of the year, but he’s looking to leave the Quakes as soon as possible, given that he doesn’t feel backed up by the ownership, something he’s stated in the past.

Chivas has been linked to the Argentine coach for the past few transfer windows, as they haven’t found a project solid enough since he left in 2018. Almeyda gave El Rebaño their last title, in 2017, which is why Vergara would like to have him back.

How much is Cruz Azul willing to pay Almeyda?

According to reports, Juan Reynoso is currently earning $1.5 million, something that Cruz Azul is willing to increase given that Almeyda’s salary in the MLS is higher than Reynoso’s, which is why they are considering paying him up to $2.5 million.
