The love story between Leeds United and Marcelo “Loco” Bielsa came to an end after the Argentine coach couldn’t help the team leave the bottom part of Premier League table, as they currently are just two points above relegation zone.

Marcelo Bielsa sacked as Leeds manager

Bielsa was sacked from his position after Leeds lost 4-0 against Tottenham in Elland Road, a scandalous score that adds to the bad streak the Peacocks currently are, as they have earned a single point in their last 6 matches.

The worst thing for Bielsa was that his team received 20 goals in the five games played in February, a Premier League record – they also lost 6-0 against Liverpool, 4-2 against Manchester United, 3-0 against Everton, and tied 3-3 against Aston Villa.

Now, Marcelo Bielsa will look to continue his career elsewhere, as he knows he still wants to coach, although he might take a break before deciding where will he coach, as the offers won’t take long to arrive.

Is Liga MX a place where he can continue coaching?

Marcelo Bielsa is no stranger to Liga MX, as he coached Atlas and Club América during the 90s, where he established one of the most successful academies in recent years, where players like Rafael Márquez, Daniel Osorno, Jared Borgetti and Oswaldo Sánchez had their first professional opportunities.

He arrived in Los Zorros academy in 1992, where he placed the bases of the project, he took over a season later, when he became coach of the first team. In 1995, he became Las Águilas coach for only 33 games, before returning to Atlas until 1997.

During his stint in Liga MX, he was offered the coaching position in Mexico National Team, something he declined. But Bielsa hasn’t closed the doors to an eventual return to Liga MX and given the need of some of the biggest club for a coach like him, he could arrive sooner rather than later.

Which team could hire him?

Both Monterrey and Club América are in need of a coach that can help then return to the only path they’re used to, as the bad results have been a constant for both clubs. Although Rayados have more economic power, Bielsa already knows how Las Águilas work, which is why he could arrive in El Nido.
